mosaic owls course

Mosaic Owls – and basic mosaic techniques.

Suitable for absolute beginners and intermediate level
Saturday 25th June 10-4.30 and Sunday 26th June 10-12.30

£120
If you have never done mosaic before and would like to have a go, learn lots of new skills, and produce something beautiful in the process then this is the course for you.

We will discuss the various mosaic tiles and substrates available as well as the best glues to use on each of these. We will look at cutting techniques and will practice these on a variety of materials. Once you are feeling confident, you will be provided with a precut MDF base in the shape of an owl, that will be suitable for use inside. We will spend the Saturday planning, cutting and glueing the tiles on to your owls. There will be basic design templates and examples available on the day, but you are welcome to bring your own ideas or we can work on one together. We will pay particular attention to how design elements work together and how best to combine colours. There will be a good variety of tiles and colours for you to work with. We will be aiming to have mosaic work on the owl by the end of the day. Small groups will enable one to one help to be available all day.

On the Sunday we will clean up the mosaiced piece and grout it. You will be taught the tricks of the trade to make this process easier. You will be guided in the choice of your grout colour so that the grout will complement the tiles you have chosen. We will also attach the hanging hardware on to the back of your mosaic. By Sunday lunchtime you should have a beautiful piece of artwork to take home, as well as having learned a good variety of mosaic techniques to take forward to future mosaic projects.

During the course you will be provided with recommendations for further reading, and also advised on the best places to source mosaic supplies and mosaic bases. Intermediate students are welcome to join this course, and will be able to undertake more technically demanding work in a supportive environment.

All materials and tools will be provided. Refreshments will also be provided.
Please bring a packed lunch and an apron.
